FOOTBALLERS around the world have put their club duties on hold to represent their nation on international duty this week.
But that’s not the case for everyone as most players didn’t receive a call-up and have stayed at home to cheer on their country from the comforts of their own house instead.
Steve Clarke’s men face Cyprus at Hampden this afternoon[/caption]But just because they’re on a break doesn’t mean they’re having a quiet week though!
Celtic defender Stephen Welsh might not have made Steve Clarke‘s Scotland squad, but he’s set for a hectic time of his own as his partner celebrated her birthday last night.
Welsh’s girlfriend, Elise, took to social media yesterday to show fans she was spending some well-needed alone time with her boyfriend on her special day.
The couple got dressed up and went for a romantic steak meal to celebrate as she shared snaps of their dinner and her outfit before they headed out.
And she was spoiled by the former Scotland youth international on her special day as she posted a picture of her present from Welsh as well.
The defender has treated her to a luxury holiday to Dubai in the summer!
She posted a picture of a laminated poster from her boyfriend, which read: “We are off to Dubai on June 4 and we are travelling business class! Lots of love Stephen.”
He also bought her an adorable designed key chain which has their anniversary in a heart too.
Welsh is clearly not waiting about when it comes to the holiday as their trip is planned just ONE day after the Scottish Cup final.
Celtic have yet to seal their place for the Hampden showdown in June as they face Rangers in the semi-final at the end of the month to confirm their spot.
Either Inverness CT or Falkirk will await the winners at the national stadium on June 3.
It’s unlikely Welsh will play a part in the final though if they do indeed reach the stage as he’s fallen down the pecking order at Parkhead under Ange Postecoglou this campaign.
He has only featured in five matches all season for the Hoops, despite being a regular in the starting XI last season.
But Welsh can’t leave the country until Celtic’s campaign is finished as he needs to be available in the off chance the Parkhead gaffer is hit with an injury crisis in the lead up to the final clash.
